University of Maryland Baltimore

Since receiving a Gold level Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Award in 2010, University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) has continued to add lactation centers. Their progressive campus-wide policy on Lactation Support for Nursing Mothers was established by University President Jay A. Perman, MD. http://cf.umaryland.edu/umpolicies/usmpolicyInfo.cfm?polid=161 UMB now boasts 7 lactation rooms on campus in the Schools of Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, plus in the Southern Management Corporation Campus Center, and the Lexington Building. A campus-wide Lactation Committee serves to spearhead this drive. Lactation rooms provide private places for faculty, staff, and students who are breastfeeding to express milk or to breastfeed their babies.
