Employer's Perspective:
I think it is vital to have availability of a breastfeeding room. I think it has been exciting over the years to see its use grow so that it is continually being used.

Employee's Reaction:
  • I feel so fortunate to have a workplace with a dedicated room for pumping during the day. The room is cozy, can accommodate 2 women at a time, and even has a sink for cleaning my pump parts, a fridge for storing milk, and lockers. Having access to a separate room means I don't have to try to find available conference rooms just for pumping or try to pump in my open cubicle where everyone could see and hear what I was doing. With the support of my workplace, I have successfully been able to breastfeed my son for 18 months.
  • I have used the DHMH breastfeeding support room 2-3 times per day since returning to work after my maternity leave. Access to the room has enabled me to continue breastfeeding my child for a full year. I particularly appreciate the comfortable chairs, and the in-room sink and refrigerator. There are two private spaces within the lactation room, and I've also enjoyed meeting and chatting with other moms who use the room at the same time.
  • Having the breastfeeding room and supportive colleagues who understood the importance of providing mother's milk to my daughter was key. My daughter would not have been able to exclusively receive breastmilk for as long as she did had this not been available to me."
